Getting Ready Moments: How to Create a Calm and Beautiful Space for Wedding Photography

Your wedding day begins with beautiful, quiet moments as you prepare for the big event. Creating a calm, clutter-free space with personal touches and natural light can make these 'getting ready' photos truly special. Here are simple tips to help you set the scene for unforgettable memories.

Your wedding day is finally here! After months (or maybe even years) of planning, it’s time to embrace every moment. But before the walk down the aisle, there's a beautiful phase of the day filled with quiet anticipation: the "getting ready" moments. These moments, filled with excitement, calm, and personal reflections, set the tone for the rest of your wedding day. And, with a little intentionality, they can become a lovely part of your wedding photos.

Here’s how to create a calm, beautiful space for getting-ready photos that you'll love looking back on.

1. Choose a Simple, Clutter-Free Space

When choosing the room or area where you’ll be getting ready, opt for a space with minimal clutter and distractions. Clean lines and open spaces help your photographer focus on you and the beautiful details that matter. A clutter-free space doesn’t mean sterile—just keep it organized so items like bags, food containers, and extra belongings aren’t crowding the scene.

Pro Tip: Designate a corner of the room for any “extras” or ask a bridesmaid to help keep things tidy. This way, your photographer can focus on capturing details like your bouquet, dress, and the genuine expressions on your face.

2. Embrace Natural Light for Flattering Photos

Natural light is one of the most beautiful and flattering types of lighting, making it ideal for wedding photography. If possible, choose a room with large windows and position yourself near them. This kind of lighting enhances skin tones, adds a soft glow, and makes everything look timeless and ethereal in photos.

Why It Matters: Artificial lighting, such as overhead lights or lamps, can cast harsh shadows or change the color tone in photos. Natural light, on the other hand, creates soft, even illumination that enhances the natural beauty of your gown, makeup, and expressions.

3. Incorporate Personal Touches

Personal touches make your getting-ready photos unique to you. Consider including meaningful items like a handwritten note from your fiancé(e), a special piece of jewelry, or family heirlooms. Even a well-placed bouquet or a favorite perfume bottle can add personality to your images. These details tell a story and bring emotional depth to your photos.

Ideas for Personal Touches:

  • A letter or small gift from your partner

  • A family heirloom like a bracelet or necklace

  • Your favorite bouquet placed in a visible spot

These touches not only add beauty to your images but also become visual memories of the emotions and love surrounding your day.

4. Capture the Dress Reveal Moment

The dress reveal is one of the most special getting-ready moments. That first look at your wedding dress, either hanging in the window or held in your hands, is magical. It's a quiet, intimate moment that can evoke so many emotions, from excitement to nostalgia, and it’s a beautiful memory to capture.

Tip: Hang your dress in a spot with natural light and a clean background. This creates a dreamy effect in photos and emphasizes the intricate details of your dress, giving it the spotlight it deserves.

5. Take Time for Classic Bridal Portraits

Once you’re dressed and ready, take a moment to pause for a few classic bridal portraits. These are timeless shots that capture your beauty, your gown, and your joy. They’ll likely become some of your most cherished photos from the day, showing you as a radiant, excited bride just before saying "I do."

Why It Matters: These portraits reflect the emotions of the day. A quiet smile, a thoughtful look—these little expressions capture the inner thoughts and feelings that make the day meaningful. A good photographer will guide you to feel comfortable, ensuring these portraits are natural and authentic.

6. Surround Yourself with People Who Make You Feel Calm and Joyful

Getting ready can sometimes be a whirlwind of emotions. Surround yourself with people who help you feel calm, happy, and confident. Whether it’s your bridal party, family members, or just a close friend, having the right people nearby makes the morning more enjoyable and keeps you grounded. Plus, your photographer can capture those fun and meaningful interactions that show the love and support around you.

Keep in Mind: The "getting ready" moments are as much about the experience as the photos. Enjoy this quiet time and let your photographer capture both the candid laughs and heartfelt moments.

Final Thoughts

Creating a calm, beautiful space for your getting-ready photos doesn’t require much—just a bit of planning and intention. A clean, well-lit space with meaningful details, a gorgeous dress reveal, and a few classic portraits will help you create memories you’ll cherish for a lifetime. And most importantly, these moments will capture your joy, anticipation, and love as you prepare to start this new chapter.

How to Legally Get Married in Central Park: A Step-by-Step Guide

Planning to get married in Central Park? From obtaining your marriage license to reserving a ceremony spot and securing permits, here’s a complete guide to handling the legal essentials for a beautiful, seamless wedding in New York’s iconic park. Plus, find out more about the best locations for your ceremony and how to make your day unforgettable.

Imagine standing under the lush canopy of Central Park, surrounded by blooming flowers, with the hum of the city softened by the park’s towering trees. The sun filters through the leaves as you and your partner exchange vows, creating a moment that feels intimate yet woven into the vibrant pulse of New York City. Central Park offers this rare blend of romance and iconic scenery, but to bring this vision to life, a few essential steps are needed to make it official.

If you’re ready to say “I do” in the heart of Manhattan, here’s everything you need to know to legally marry in Central Park and start this new chapter with confidence.

1. Obtain a New York Marriage License

To legally marry in Central Park, you’ll need a valid marriage license from the City of New York. Here’s how to get one:

  • Apply Online or In Person: Start by completing the online application through the City Clerk’s website. You can also apply in person, but filling out the online form first can speed things up.

  • Visit the City Clerk’s Office: Both you and your partner will need to visit the office in person, bringing valid photo identification (such as a driver’s license or passport). You’ll sign the paperwork, and your license will be issued on the same day.

  • Marriage License Fee: There’s a $35 fee for the license, payable by credit card or money order.

  • Waiting Period: Once issued, you must wait at least 24 hours before the marriage ceremony, so plan accordingly.

Your marriage license is valid for 60 days, so if you’re planning well in advance, don’t pick it up too early.

2. Arrange for an Officiant

New York law requires that a registered officiant perform the ceremony. This could be a minister, priest, rabbi, judge, or any legally certified individual. Many officiants specialize in Central Park weddings, offering flexibility with various locations within the park. Ensure they’re authorized to officiate in New York State to avoid any complications.

3. Reserve Your Central Park Ceremony Location

While Central Park is open to the public, certain areas require a permit, especially if you expect a larger gathering. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Permit Application: For gatherings of 20 or more people, or if you’re using specific locations like the Conservatory Garden, you’ll need a permit from the NYC Parks Department. The permit fee is typically $25.

  • Popular Locations: Iconic spots like Bethesda Terrace, Wagner Cove, and Cop Cot tend to attract more visitors, so securing a permit helps ensure that your chosen spot is available for your ceremony. To learn more about these locations, check out our recent blog post on 4 Stunning Central Park Locations for Your Dream Wedding.

  • Conservatory Garden: If you’re interested in holding your event at the Conservatory Garden, which requires a separate permit due to its formal setting, you’ll need to contact the Central Park Conservancy directly. They can be reached at (212) 360-2766, or you can apply via their website on the Central Park Conservancy page. This specific process ensures your event is in line with the garden’s guidelines.

  • Guidelines and Restrictions: Review the NYC Parks guidelines for Central Park weddings for any special rules or restrictions that might apply. You can find a detailed guide here: NYC Parks Wedding Guidelines PDF.

4. Plan for Photography and Videography

Capturing the beauty of your Central Park wedding is essential, so consider hiring a photographer or videographer familiar with the park’s unique settings. Having grown up near Central Park, I know the park well and offer photo and video combo packages starting at $2950 for elopements and intimate ceremonies. If you’d like your wedding day captured with care and a personal touch, feel free to reach out through my Contact Form.

5. Consider Additional Permits for Decorations

If you plan to use decorations, chairs, or amplified music, you may need additional permits. Check with the NYC Parks Department to determine what’s allowed, especially if you’re envisioning a more elaborate setup.

6. File Your Marriage Certificate

Once your ceremony is complete, your officiant will submit the signed marriage license to the City Clerk’s Office to be officially filed. You’ll then receive your marriage certificate by mail, usually within a few weeks. This document is your legal proof of marriage, so keep it in a safe place.

Disclaimer: The information provided in this post is accurate as of the time of writing; however, requirements and procedures may have changed. Please verify all details with official sources, such as the NYC Parks Department and the City Clerk’s Office, before making any wedding arrangements in Central Park.

Getting married in Central Park combines simplicity with elegance, but it does require careful attention to legal details. By following these steps, you’ll be well-prepared to enjoy a seamless wedding day in one of New York’s most romantic settings.

Ready to start planning? For inspiration on locations within Central Park, check out my blog post on 4 Stunning Central Park Locations for Your Dream Wedding.

4 Stunning Central Park Locations for Your Dream Wedding

Central Park offers a breathtaking backdrop for couples looking to exchange vows in the heart of New York City. From the romantic Conservatory Garden to the intimate charm of Wagner Cove, discover four stunning locations perfect for your Central Park wedding, with tips on how to make each spot uniquely yours.

Central Park, the heart of New York City, offers more than just a beautiful backdrop. It’s a place where love stories come to life. Whether you’re seeking an intimate gathering or a grand celebration, Central Park has the perfect spot to match your vision. Here are four iconic locations within the park that are ideal for saying “I do.”

1. The Conservatory Garden

If you’re dreaming of a classic, romantic setting, the Conservatory Garden is your go-to. This six-acre haven is the only formal garden in Central Park, and it’s divided into three distinct sections: French, Italian, and English gardens. Each part offers its own charm, making it a versatile location for your ceremony.

The lush greenery, blooming flowers, and tranquil fountains create an idyllic atmosphere. The central Italian Garden, with its majestic wisteria pergola, is a favorite for wedding vows. The perfectly manicured lawns provide a serene contrast to the hustle of the city, making it a peaceful yet sophisticated choice.

This location requires a permit, ensuring your wedding feels private and exclusive. With a capacity for up to 100 guests, the Conservatory Garden is ideal for both intimate ceremonies and slightly larger gatherings.

Pro Tip: Plan your wedding here in late spring or early summer for the most vibrant blooms.

2. Bethesda Terrace and Fountain

Bethesda Terrace is where romance meets grandeur. Overlooking the lake, with its iconic fountain and grand staircase, this spot is a favorite for couples who want a dramatic and unforgettable ceremony.

The Terrace offers a blend of intricate architecture and natural beauty. The Minton tiles on the ceiling of the arcade bring a timeless elegance, while the steps leading down to the fountain create a stunning aisle for brides. The fountain itself, crowned by the Angel of the Waters statue, symbolizes purity and love — a perfect centerpiece for your vows.

Bethesda Terrace can accommodate a large number of guests, making it perfect for bigger celebrations. It’s also one of the most photographed spots in Central Park, so your wedding photos will undoubtedly stand out.

Pro Tip: Consider timing your ceremony around sunset for that magical golden hour glow, perfect for photos.

3. Wagner Cove

For couples who want something more intimate and private, Wagner Cove offers a hidden gem. Tucked away near the edge of the lake, this charming wooden pavilion is surrounded by trees and water, providing a peaceful and secluded setting for your ceremony.

Wagner Cove is perfect for elopements or small gatherings, as it can accommodate up to 20 guests. The rustic charm of the wooden shelter, combined with the natural beauty of the surrounding lake and greenery, makes it an unforgettable spot for a quiet, romantic exchange of vows. The peacefulness here will make you feel like you’ve stepped into another world, far removed from the busy city.

Pro Tip: Add a boat ride after your ceremony for a unique and memorable wedding day experience.

4. Cop Cot

If you’re looking for a location that blends rustic charm with Central Park’s natural beauty, Cop Cot is an ideal choice. This wooden gazebo sits atop a small hill, offering a peaceful and scenic setting. Surrounded by trees, Cop Cot feels like a serene escape in the middle of the city.

The natural wooden structure provides a cozy, intimate space for ceremonies with up to 30 guests. Its elevated position allows for sweeping views of the park, giving your wedding a backdrop of greenery and tranquility. The simplicity of Cop Cot enhances the focus on the couple, making it a perfect spot for those who appreciate understated elegance.

Pro Tip: Consider holding your ceremony here in the fall, when the surrounding trees turn brilliant shades of red, orange, and yellow, creating a stunning natural display.

Growing up in Spanish Harlem, I spent much of my childhood gravitating toward Central Park. It became my escape, a place I felt connected to no matter what was going on around me. Long, scenic walks through its landscapes became part of my routine, and over time, I discovered so many beautiful spots that have since become special places for the couples I photograph. Now, it’s a privilege to help others celebrate their love in this park that has meant so much to me.

If you're planning to get married in Central Park and would like your special moments captured in a meaningful and thoughtful way, I'd be honored to be part of your day. I offer photo and video combo packages for elopements starting at $2950, tailored to capture the beauty of your story in one of New York's most iconic settings. If you're interested, please fill out the contact form below, and we can start planning how to make your day as special as you’ve envisioned.

A Perfect Summer Day at Avon-by-the-Sea

This past summer, my family and I decided to head down to Avon-by-the-Sea in New Jersey, one of those quintessential beach towns that reminds you why summer is the best season. It was one of those days where the sun, sand, and sea all came together to create the kind of memories you hold onto tightly.

This trip was extra special because my family was all there, from my wife and kids to my mom and stepdad, and even my cousin joined us. We set up camp with umbrellas and beach chairs, staking out our spot on the crowded beach as we prepared for a full day of relaxation and laughter.

The kids, as always, were the first to hit the water, excitedly grabbing their buckets and shovels, ready to build sandcastles and search for seashells. My wife and I, always with cameras in hand, couldn't resist capturing these moments. The photos you'll see here were taken on my trusty Olympus OM-1, using a combination of my 50mm f/1.4 and 35mm f/2.8 lenses, and of course, shot on Kodak Portra 400. The film really brought out the warmth of the sand, the vibrant colors of the umbrellas, and the laid-back, sun-kissed vibe of the day.

One of my favorite shots from the day is of my mom and cousin at the shore. My cousin, laughing, holding onto a bucket of seaweed, while my mom points something out, their joy completely unfiltered. It's one of those candid moments that feels so genuine, a snapshot of pure happiness.

As the day went on, we spent time walking along the shoreline, dipping our toes in the cool ocean water. The kids splashed around while we watched boats and kites in the distance. One of my other favorite shots captures a lone sailboat on the horizon, the kind of image that makes you feel calm just looking at it.

We ended the day sharing snacks under the beach umbrellas, the kids exhausted but smiling. We took a final group shot before packing up—it's the kind of picture that, years from now, will instantly transport me back to this perfect summer day. These beach trips are about more than just fun in the sun; they’re about the family moments we create, the laughter, and the time spent together.

This was the last beach trip of the summer, but it couldn’t have ended on a better note.

3 Planning Tips to Keep in Mind When Planning a Fall Wedding

Planning a fall wedding? From navigating unpredictable weather to embracing the season’s rich colors and cozy vibes, these three essential tips will help you create the perfect autumn celebration. Learn how to make the most of the beautiful fall season and ensure your wedding day is stress-free and unforgettable.

Picture this: The crisp autumn air fills the venue as golden leaves gently fall, creating a natural backdrop you didn’t even need to plan for. Your guests are sipping warm cider, wrapped in soft blankets provided to keep them cozy. As the sun sets earlier than you expected, casting a warm, golden glow over everything, you and your partner share a moment that feels straight out of a storybook.

This is the magic of a fall wedding—but behind every seamless detail is careful planning to make sure the day lives up to your dreams. If you're planning an autumn wedding, here are three important tips to keep in mind to ensure your big day is as beautiful as the season itself.

1. Plan Around the Weather (But Don’t Stress!)

One of the most charming aspects of fall is its unpredictability—one day can be sunny and perfect, while the next could bring a surprise chill or even a drizzle. Fall weddings require a little extra flexibility, but trust me, it’s worth it for the beautiful moments this season provides.

To avoid any last-minute stress, plan for all weather conditions. If you’re having an outdoor ceremony or cocktail hour, have a tent or backup indoor space just in case. Also, consider offering thoughtful touches like cozy blankets or outdoor heaters for your guests as the temperature cools in the evening. Not only will this keep everyone comfortable, but it will also add to the intimate, cozy feel that makes fall weddings so special.

Pro tip: Check your wedding date's sunset time. Fall days are shorter, and the earlier sunset means you’ll need to plan your ceremony and photography schedule accordingly to capture those dreamy golden-hour moments.

2. Embrace the Seasonal Decor

Fall comes with its own natural decor, making it easier to create a beautiful wedding with less effort. The rich colors and textures of the season—deep burgundy, mustard yellow, burnt orange, and forest green—can set the tone for your wedding without feeling overly themed.

Consider incorporating these colors into your florals, bridesmaid dresses, and even your table settings. Seasonal blooms like dahlias, mums, and sunflowers can give your arrangements that perfect autumn touch, and you can elevate the look with subtle accents like dried pampas grass or eucalyptus. You could also take advantage of the harvest season by decorating your tables with gourds, pumpkins, or rich wooden elements.

Want something more sophisticated? Mix in metallics like copper or gold, or add velvet accents to your seating or tablescapes. These elegant details complement the fall aesthetic while adding a luxe, polished feel.

3. Mind the Seasonal Menu

One of the best parts of a fall wedding is the opportunity to craft a menu that reflects the cozy, comforting flavors of the season. Think about adding warm, inviting options that will keep your guests satisfied and in the fall spirit.

Comfort foods like roasted root vegetables, butternut squash soup, or even a gourmet mac and cheese bar are sure to be crowd-pleasers. For dessert, why not offer fall-inspired sweets like mini apple pies, pumpkin spice cupcakes, or even a s’mores station for that nostalgic, fireside vibe?

Don’t forget the drinks! A signature fall cocktail, like spiced cider or a maple bourbon old-fashioned, can be a fun addition and bring your seasonal theme to life. Your guests will appreciate these thoughtful touches and remember your wedding as the perfect blend of taste and comfort.

Why Fall Weddings Are So Special

Fall weddings are truly unique. The season brings its own charm, with changing leaves, earlier sunsets, and a sense of warmth and togetherness. By keeping the weather, decor, and menu in mind, you can create a wedding day that embraces everything beautiful about autumn.

Whether it’s the cozy atmosphere, the rich colors, or the cool breeze, fall weddings are a personal favorite of mine to photograph and film. There’s something about this season that brings out the best in love stories, and I’m here to capture every moment.

What to Do When Your Wedding Venue Closes: 3 Key Steps to Keep Your Day on Track

If your wedding venue shuts down unexpectedly, don’t panic. Acting quickly, notifying your vendors, and searching for a new venue can help keep your big day on track. Here are three essential steps to guide you through the process and ensure your wedding plans stay intact despite the disruption.

Few things are more stressful than finding out your wedding venue has suddenly shut down or canceled your booking without warning. If you’re facing this situation, you’re likely feeling overwhelmed, but there are actionable steps you can take to keep your wedding plans on track. Acting quickly and staying flexible are crucial to ensuring that your special day still goes off without a hitch.

Here are three key steps to take when your wedding venue closes unexpectedly:

1. Notify Your Wedding Vendors Right Away

Your first priority should be to contact your wedding vendors. Whether it’s your photographer, florist, or caterer, keeping your vendors in the loop is essential. Many vendors have worked with multiple venues and may have helpful connections to new locations that have last-minute availability.

It’s also important to review your contracts with each vendor. You may need to make adjustments to the times or locations, and most vendors are experienced in dealing with unexpected changes. By keeping an open line of communication, you’ll ensure everyone is on the same page, making the transition to a new venue much smoother.

2. Search for a New Wedding Venue Immediately

Time is of the essence when your wedding venue closes. Begin searching for a new venue as soon as possible. Explore all available options, including venues you hadn’t initially considered. Some venues may have last-minute openings due to cancellations, so reach out and inquire about any upcoming availability.

Consider outdoor spaces or smaller, more intimate venues if your original plan is no longer feasible. Keep an open mind, as your new venue may offer a unique charm you hadn’t anticipated, allowing you to create new, beautiful memories on your special day.

3. Review Your Wedding Venue Contract for Refunds

If your wedding venue canceled on you without warning, it’s important to review your contract for refund policies. Most venues include cancellation clauses that outline your rights, including refunds or other compensation. If you’re having difficulty securing your refund, it may be worth consulting with a legal professional.

Reclaiming any funds from the canceled venue will give you the financial flexibility to invest in securing a new location. Knowing your rights will also help you feel more confident as you move forward with your new wedding plans.

Facing an unexpected venue closure can be incredibly stressful, but by acting quickly and staying flexible, you can still create the wedding of your dreams.

Why I Bring My Pentax 6x7 to Photograph Weddings: A Photographer’s Perspective

Discover why I bring my Pentax 6x7 medium format camera to every wedding I photograph. From the timeless beauty of film to the intentionality of each shot, see how this classic camera, paired with Kodak Portra film, allows me to capture love stories in a way that feels authentic and cinematic.

When it comes to wedding photography, choosing the right equipment is critical. I consistently rely on my Pentax 6x7 medium format camera, always paired with the 105mm f/2.4 lens and an ND filter, for capturing timeless moments. While digital photography reigns in convenience, shooting film on medium format brings unparalleled depth, richness, and emotion to a wedding day. Let me explain why this combination is my go-to for weddings.

The Beauty of Medium Format Film

One of the main reasons I choose my Pentax 6x7 is because of the distinctive look it offers. The medium format produces images that are softer, more organic, and carry a cinematic quality that digital can’t always replicate. It emphasizes textures, lighting, and colors in a way that feels more tactile and real. For daytime shoots, I rely on Kodak Portra 400 for its balanced, natural tones, perfect for outdoor ceremonies and engagement sessions. As the evening rolls in and light becomes dimmer, I switch to Kodak Portra 800, a film that handles lower light while still delivering that beautiful depth and detail.

Take a look at the recent engagement session I photographed in Tarrytown, NY—notice the way the colors pop with a natural vibrancy, from the subtle hues of the mural backdrop to the soft glow around the couple’s skin. Whether under bright daylight or the soft twilight of an evening, Portra film delivers a timeless and consistent quality.

The Importance of the 105mm f/2.4 Lens

Pairing my Pentax 6x7 with the 105mm f/2.4 lens is a choice rooted in versatility and creativity. This lens, known for its sharpness and beautiful depth of field, allows me to create images where the subject truly stands out. The creamy bokeh it produces, especially wide open at f/2.4, creates a natural separation between the couple and their background, giving each image a dreamy, romantic quality.

This lens is especially perfect for intimate moments like a couple’s embrace or close-up shots of rings and delicate details. In weddings, where emotions are raw and the moments are fleeting, the 105mm’s focal length allows me to stay at a comfortable distance while capturing all the emotion and intensity in a scene.

Why I Use an ND Filter

Using an ND filter (neutral density filter) is crucial when shooting with film, particularly when working with the wide aperture of the 105mm f/2.4 lens in bright conditions. Often, wedding ceremonies take place outdoors during the day, where the natural light can be overpowering. Without the ND filter, I’d need to stop down the aperture to balance the exposure, but that would compromise the beautiful shallow depth of field this lens offers.

The ND filter allows me to shoot wide open, even in full sunlight, maintaining the soft, blurred background that makes my subjects pop. It gives me control over the light, ensuring that I capture every moment exactly as I envision it, without losing the qualities that make medium format film so special.

The Intentionality of Every Shot

In a world where digital photography can result in hundreds of throwaway shots, shooting on medium format film is deliberate. Each frame counts. With just 10 exposures per roll of 120 film, I approach every shot with precision and care. It’s a philosophy that mirrors the significance of the day itself: every interaction, every smile, every exchange of vows deserves attention and focus.

This intentionality is something I believe my couples appreciate—there’s a certain trust that develops when they know that I am fully present with every shot I take. Film slows the process down, allowing for more thoughtfulness and less distraction.

Timeless, Lasting Quality

Film photography is timeless. With digital images, trends and editing styles can shift with the seasons, but the look of film remains classic. The shots I capture on my Pentax 6x7 feel enduring, making them perfect for a wedding, which is itself an enduring moment in a couple’s life. Decades from now, the couple will be able to look back at their photos with a sense of nostalgia, not for the trends of the moment, but for the genuine emotions of the day.

Just look at the images I took near the lighthouse. The richness of the tones, the soft gradient between light and shadow—these are characteristics that are hard to replicate digitally without a lot of post-production effort. Yet with film, they’re inherent.

The Element of Surprise

Another benefit is the element of surprise. Unlike digital photography, where you can immediately review the results, film forces you to wait for the development process. It adds an extra layer of excitement for both me and the couple. I’ve found that this anticipation brings the couple even closer to their images—they know that what they’ll receive will be something special and unique.

Merging Artistry with Technology

While I primarily shoot film during weddings, I also incorporate digital photography to ensure that I capture every angle and moment. This blending of traditional artistry with modern technology gives my couples the best of both worlds: they’ll have the candid convenience of digital, combined with the romantic timelessness of film. It’s a balance that speaks to today’s couples who value experiences and moments over volume and excess.

The engagement photos from this session—whether it’s the quiet moments shared by the water or the playful portrait of their dog wearing a “Humans Getting Married” bandana—demonstrate how film captures both the big moments and the small details with equal importance.

Why This Matters for My Clients

Weddings are a whirlwind of emotions, love, and celebration. My role is to capture that whirlwind in a way that speaks to the heart and soul of the day. My Pentax 6x7, paired with the 105mm f/2.4 lens and ND filter, helps me deliver on that promise. I believe the quality and artistry of film resonate deeply with couples who value the finer details, those who cherish the authenticity and depth of the experience over fast results.

For my clients it’s about more than just pictures. It’s about preserving the beauty of their wedding day in a way that feels personal, intimate, and everlasting.

As an experienced wedding photographer, I aim to create a blend of artistry and storytelling through my lens, capturing those once-in-a-lifetime moments with a medium that’s as meaningful as the day itself. The Pentax 6x7 enables me to do just that, producing images that will be cherished for a lifetime.

By blending film and digital photography, I offer a comprehensive package that resonates with those who appreciate both creativity and craft, ensuring that their wedding is remembered in the most authentic, beautiful way possible.

This approach has allowed me to continuously capture the emotions, joy, and love in a way that feels classic, yet modern. I look forward to bringing this artistry to many more weddings, including yours.

Kathryn’s East Hampton Bachelorette Party Highlight Reel: Stress-Free Tips for Planning Your Own Bachelorette Party

Join me as I capture the beautiful moments from Kathryn’s unforgettable bachelorette party in East Hampton. Plus, discover three essential tips for planning a stress-free bachelorette celebration that focuses on fun, love, and memories.

Kathryn, glowing with excitement as she celebrates her bachelorette party in East Hampton, surrounded by friends and love.

Planning a bachelorette party should be fun and exciting, not stressful. Kathryn’s bachelorette party in East Hampton was the perfect example of a day filled with love, laughter, and beautiful moments shared among friends. I had the honor of capturing it all on film, and now I’m thrilled to share the highlight reel with you. Watch it below to see how the day unfolded!

As you prepare for your own bachelorette party, whether you’re hosting it or planning it for a close friend, keep in mind that simplicity and careful planning can go a long way toward reducing stress. Below are three essential tips to help you organize a memorable bachelorette party with ease.

1. Keep It Simple, Yet Personal
One of the keys to a successful bachelorette party is balancing personal touches with simplicity. Instead of overwhelming yourself with a packed itinerary, focus on a few meaningful activities that reflect the bride’s personality. If she loves the outdoors, consider a day at the beach or a scenic hike. For those who enjoy a more relaxing experience, a spa day or a wine tasting can be ideal. The goal is to create an atmosphere where the bride can relax and enjoy quality time with her closest friends.

2. Delegate Responsibilities
When planning a bachelorette party, it’s important not to take on everything yourself. Reach out to the bridal party or close friends to help with certain tasks—whether it’s coordinating transportation, booking reservations, or even choosing party favors. Delegating helps reduce the workload and ensures that no details are overlooked, allowing you to focus on making the day special for the bride. It also gives everyone a sense of involvement, which adds to the overall experience.

3. Focus on Being Present
In the rush of planning, it’s easy to get caught up in the logistics and forget to simply enjoy the day. A bachelorette party is about celebrating the bride and her upcoming wedding. Take a moment to relax, be present, and savor the memories being made. When the focus is on the people and not the perfection of the details, the experience becomes much more meaningful for everyone involved.

Beyond the Lens: How Humility and Growth Shape My Wedding Photography

Hello and salutations!

Today, I want to share a story that’s close to my heart and holds valuable lessons for both couples and fellow wedding photographers. This story dates back to one of the first weddings I had the privilege to be part of, a day that taught me lessons I still carry with me in my work today.

The couple in the image below were truly a joy to work with—easygoing, silly, and absolutely in love with each other. It’s moments like these that remind me why I chose to pursue wedding photography. Being surrounded by such genuine affection and happiness fuels my passion for this craft.

But beyond the love and joy, that day also reinforced an essential lesson: service is above ego. I was the second photographer that day, and as fate would have it, the lead photographer got lost on the way to the portrait session location. Since I had driven with the couple, I was with them the whole time. When they asked if I could step in and take the portraits, I hesitated. I didn’t want to step on any toes, so I tried to decline. However, their request led me to a future lesson that has shaped how I work today.

When the lead photographer finally arrived, she was noticeably upset with both me and the videographer. Her reaction, fueled by ego, disrupted the mood of the day, a stark contrast to what our focus should have been—serving the couple. This experience taught me that in wedding photography, our priority must always be the couple’s experience, not our own personal concerns. Our work is about capturing the essence of their love and joy, regardless of who takes the shot.

The third realization I had that day was about commitment to growth. I looked back at those moments and knew I had the potential to be really good at this, but only if I kept learning. That commitment to growth drives me every day, pushing me to improve my craft so I can better serve my couples. It’s why I’ve built a team that shares this philosophy. For example, my go-to photographer Nicole (@photography.by.strain) consistently goes above and beyond. At a recent wedding, she made sure the couple stayed hydrated and cool by providing fans on a very hot day—simple yet thoughtful gestures that make all the difference.

Reflecting on that day reminds me how much I’ve grown and how important it is to stay humble, committed, and focused on what truly matters. Whether you’re a couple planning your big day or a fellow photographer, I hope this story resonates with you. Remember, in the world of weddings, it’s all about love, service, and continuous growth.

Thank you for reading!
